Which DVD should I start off with?
« on: February 06, 2010, 03:32:36 PM »

Whats good forum? Last June on my way back home from work, i told myself that I was gonna play the piano. I had no experience with playing the piano, but a passion that surpassed my talent level at keyboard.I have been playing keyboard for about 7 months now  at my church. Of course I play by ear and I know majority of all my scales. I want to be able to play different progressional styles of music to congregational songs and choir songs... Which dvd should i purchase first and which one should follow that one?

The first DVD you need to purchase is the Urban Worship Play By Ear Vol. 1 and 2. This will set you up with a nice vocabulary of chords that will instantly boost your playing. Trust me. Jamal does a good job of showing you how, when and where to use these chords. After this series, get the Church Essentials DVD. This shows you all you all you need to know about playing in a church service. Jamal goes a little too fast for my taste on this one, but just keep rewinding and pausing because the information and chords that he shows you are worth it. Hope this helps you out a little. God bless.

LOL, thanks Jamal. I had a good teacher. But I had a question myself for you (and I was too lazy to start a forum for this one question, lol). But I just purchased the Soloing Techniques Vol 1 and 2 DVDs. Heres my question:

When I'm playing in a major key, C major for example, I know I can play the A minor blues scale to solo, as well as some of the other soloing chords that you taught. But when I'm going thru different progressions, 1-4 in C major for example, when I go to that F, could/should I play a different blues scale (D minor blues scale), or should I just stick with the A minor blues scale?
